Janet Bruins holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Engineering from Purdue University, and an MBA from Georgetown University. With over fifteen years of experience as a Professional Engineer, she has championed STEM education. She has also guided students to apply their skills to climate challenges in underserved communities across Honduras, India, and the Philippines.

The birth of her daughter reshaped her life in unexpected ways. Like many new mothers, Janet entered parenthood with hope and joy. However, she soon faced the deep isolation of postpartum depression and the relentless demands of raising a child. Even as she emerged from the worst of it, she realized her identity was consumed by motherhood’s responsibilities. The dishes and laundry never ended. Financial pressures grew heavier, and caregiving left little room for her own ambitions.

It was in navigating that struggle that Janet began building tools for herself—simple ways to reclaim her time, energy, and sense of purpose. Over time, these experiments became the foundation for her first book. Expecting It All: More Time, Money, Energy, and Space for Mothers (Mascot Books, 2024) is part memoir, part guide. It shares her journey and offers other mothers a roadmap for finding balance, fulfillment, and self-belief.
