About the Author and Illustrator
Kathleen M. Blasi writes gently powerful stories that highlight everyday heroism and emotional depth. She is the author of Milo’s Moonlight Mission (originally titled Clear Skies, Storm Likely), as well as Hosea Plays On and A Name of Honor.
She is a strong supporter of young writers and active in the children’s book community. Kathleen previously served as Co‑President of the Rochester Area Children’s Writers & Illustrators. She also co-directed the Rochester Children’s Book Festival, which earned her the 2015 New York State Reading Association Literacy Advocate Award.
She holds a BA in English and Writing. Kathleen lives in western New York, where she leads writing workshops and school visits that inspire curiosity in young storytellers.
Petronela Dostalova earned her MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. She previously studied Fine Arts at the University of East Anglia. In 2015, her picture-book project The Reds and Greens was highly commended by the Creative Conscience Award for promoting equality through color.
She was born in the former Czechoslovakia and raised in a small village called Bořša. Petronela brings a rich Czech‑Slovak‑Hungarian heritage into her work. She loves nature and often balances studio time with travel, cycling, and water activities. Sketching remains her constant passion.
Her illustration style blends layered digital textures and watercolor brushes. She combines abstract shapes, rich blending modes, and final touches of light to bring each scene to life. Petronela now lives in Suffolk, England, with her partner and their rescue dog, Haribo.
